We look at applications holistically, so if you are studying a foundation year at another university, and would like to come to Durham for year one, we would welcome you to apply.
Please be aware that admissions can be competitive. Our typical offers for year one entry are between A*A*A and ABB, or equivalent. We will be looking at your application alongside those of students who are predicted to achieve or already hold these grades. Your foundation year will need to reflect this and bring you to the same standard. If your chosen course needs you to have studied a particular subject at A Level then that subjects need to have been studied as part of the foundation programme.
But most importantly, we are looking for the ablest and most motivated students who will best benefit from a Durham University education. We’re also looking for the following:
- development of study skills
- independence of thought and working
- skills gained from non-academic extra-curricular activities, eg sports, the arts or voluntary and community work
- contextual consideration of merit and potential.
Make your application stand out with a really strong personal statement. There’s a lot of information for applicants on how to write an effective personal statement here, which should help you make a competitive application.
