In most cases, applications for postgraduate courses can be made at any time in the year, provided that you allow enough time for a decision to be made on your application and for you to make any necessary arrangements (such as visa applications, if applicable) in order to arrive for your course start date.

Most of our postgraduate taught degree courses start in late September or early October each year. Our Integrated PhD courses normally begin in October but you may also start postgraduate research degrees in January or April. If you would like to start a research degree at another time during the academic year then please get in touch with the relevant Academic Department to discuss it. We can usually be pretty accommodating!

It's worth noting that there are some postgraduate taught courses which may close early due to there being a high demand for places, such as those delivered by Durham University Business School. Please explore the relevant Academic Department’s web pages for further details.

One last thing to be aware of - if you are applying for scholarships or other funding sources, or if you are applying for a course delivered in conjunction with a Doctoral Training Partnership or Centre, there may be additional funding application deadlines to be aware of when making your application to a postgraduate course.
